Instead of creating statues, some communities have celebrated their uniqueness by painting murals on the walls of their downtown buildings. The community that is credited with first capitalizing on this unique urban art form in Canada is the Town of Chemainus in British Columbia. In Chemainus, there are more than 30 larger than life murals. Since creating them, many communities in Canada have followed its lead. Here are a collection of murals that Big Thing correspondents have provided me.
If you have pictures of murals in other communities and would like to showcase them, please send me an e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org .
