To find leads to "Big Things", I spent a fair bit of time scouring tourism brochures and other documents. I also got lists from tourist offices in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba as well as had a lot of help from people like you. I am sure that I have still missed some "Big Things".
It is funny, even though communities erect these big things, they sometimes seem embarrassed by their pressence. I am always surprised at some communities with "Big Things" that do not include pictures of them in their own tourist brochures. The irony is that the pictures they do include make their communities look just like any other. What is sometimes unique about their community is their "Big Thing".
In order to do things right, I sent letters to most of the communities that I identified with big things to get the information directly from them. Even so, there might be errors or some interesting bit of trivia about the object. If you know of any more information please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, if you have a photograph (or one that is better than what I have) let me know.
Even though I have identified about 274 "Big Things" in Canada, I know I am missing some. If you know of one that I missed or you have corrections for the ones I have already listed tell me about it by sending me an e-mail at email@example.com.
